Dr. Aham Onyike, M.D.

Biography

Dr. Aham Onyike is an American board-certified Orthopaedic surgeon who is a specialist in joint replacement surgery, sports medicine and trauma. He was born in Colorado, USA but grew up in Nigeria where he attended primary and secondary school. He received his undergraduate degree in Biology from the Pennsylvania State University, and his medical degree from Rutgers New Jersey Medical School. His Residency training in Orthopaedic surgery was at Howard University Hospital and Fellowship at Virginia Commonwealth University.
Dr. Onyike completed his Orthopaedic surgery training in 2005 and spent the first 7 years in academic medicine. In this position he trained orthopaedic surgery residents and medical students at Howard University Hospital, Providence Hospital and the Washington DC Veterans Hospital. He was also involved in orthopaedic research and has delivered several lectures in various parts of North America and Africa. Dr Onyike’s area of expertise focuses on primary and complex joint replacement surgeries, including revisions. He has gained a reputation as a go to surgeon for salvages after previous joint replacement failures. He also has extended his expertise overseas and is a co-founder of the Center for Advanced Specialty Surgery (Boutique Hospitals) in Nigeria. He is also a founding member of the non-profit foundation Operation Stand-Run-Walk which serves to provide charitable orthopaedic care for citizens in Nigeria afflicted with bone or joint impairments.
He currently resides in Washington DC with his wife and 2 sons. He is active in numerous professional and social organizations including the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgery, the American Association of Hip and knee Surgery, the Association of Nigerian Physicians in America (Chapter President), the Nigerian Soccer. His hobbies include football, basketball, biking, disc-jockeying, travelling and cooking.
